HFH International Volunteers dedicate 3 to 24 months to working as a volunteer in another country depending on the needs specified by the receiving country. The program offers a unique opportunity to participate globally, and is designed to:
• Engage people in the international movement for simple, decent housing
• Enhance Habitat for Humanity organizations around the world
• Empower volunteers to have a meaningful experience while living abroad
IV opportunities range from fundraising to information systems to construction positions and more, and change often as available positions are filled and new ones posted. The application process is analogous to that of more conventional "employment", and details re each position are clearly outlined. Curious? Check http://www.habitat.org/ivp/ for more information.
To sample global giving on a "smaller" scale, consider a Habitat Global Village trip (http://www.habitat.org/gv/). They offer an enticing balance of giving, traveling, and connecting in "realtime" with the people who live in your destination of choice.
In many receiving countries, GV teams are the primary force in completing housing projects, including my current host country of Hungary. I have been blessed with the privilege of working with eight GV teams during my stay here, extending the shared global experience from Szarvas, Hungary to Canada, Ireland, the US, China, Sri Lanka, and back again. Add in all of you who continue to share the journey via this vehicle and associated pictures, and the world becomes a reachable and awesome space as we touch one another's lives in the simplicity of building community in this way. Awesome!
We Are One Song
What can one person do?
Love, give, live from the heart, believe that each positive gesture, from a can of soup for the local food bank to millions gifted by corporate foundations, shifts the fabric of our world in a positive way.
Speak gladly, let go of those things and thoughts which do not/cannot serve.
“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” are living words. Give over to that which you believe in, passionately and positively. Within each of us as we do these things is the capacity to create heaven on earth.
Following nearly 3 decades as a medical professional, I have spent the past seven years exploring and expanding horizons. It has been a journey of faith, hope, and joy, with amazing opportunities to learn and grow. I have stepped out of the box and moved from anchor to kite, soaring to wherever God leads.
